The Post Office Box

The Post Office Box

For as long as I can remember, Martek has always had a Post Office box. When the company was established in 1968 on 16th Street in Newport Beach, California, I suspect mail was delivered directly to the company (my 90 year old father, the founder of Martek Instruments, doesn't remember). However, once we moved operations to the city of Irvine in 1977, we incorporated a PO Box at the post office down the street. When I took over the leadership of Martek and relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1993, I continued this tradition.

When I wasn't traveling across the country visiting customers, I would enjoy taking a break from the office by going to the Post Office to check on the mail. Now, we receive very little physical mail. Nearly every document and transaction, from purchase orders to payments, are accomplished via email and online banking. What used to be a pleasant daily occurrence is now a once-a-week event. Even now, what little mail is ever present, is mostly junk.

So, I finally decided to eliminate our Post Office Box and have any physical mail sent directly to our street address. In case you've ever wondered, here it is:

Martek Instruments, Inc., 5201 Old Poole Road, Suite 115, Raleigh, NC 27610

I suppose I'll just have to take my office breaks out in the parking lot now.
