38th Annual Electric Utility Chemistry Workshop

Dog Days of Summer

It's been six months since I last posted a note and I apologize for not being more forthright; I've been quite busy traveling the country solving chemistry problems for our customers and learning the latest chemistry trends at the conferences I attended.

In March, I presented a paper on Low-Level Conductivity Standards at the Measurement Science Conference in Anaheim, CA. It's been quite a while since I hob-knobbed with the Metrology industry and I found the opportunity to meet some very smart folks to be...well, interesting.

The 38th Annual Electric Utility Chemistry Workshop held in Champaign-Urbana, IL June 5-7 was well-attended and focused on a variety of topics ranging from environmental regulations to corrosion product transport and intelligent chemistry alarms.

The 12th EPRI International Conference on Cycle Chemistry in Fossil & Combined Cycle Plants was also held in the last week of June in Alexandria, VA. One of the highlights of the Conference as the availability, for FREE, of EPRI's Guidelines for Control of Flow-Accelerated Corrosion in Fossil and Combined Cycle Plants. I strongly recommend you visit the EPRI website to obtain a FREE copy of this very important document. Did I mention it was FREE?

Last week, I attended another Metrology event held at Micro Quality Calibration's amazing facility in Chatsworth, CA. Dr. Jun Bautista did a wonderful job of coordinating the event which featured a variety of presentations as well as tours of their state-of-the-art facility. While Martek Instruments specializes in water analysis, it was quite amazing to see MQC's capabilities for validating and calibrating EVERYTHING having to deal with measurement science. I suggest you visit their website at www.microqualitycal.com to learn more about their services.

As for Martek Instruments, we've been quite successful with the recent introduction of the re-designed Mark 24 Analyzer especially in regards to its integration in our latest Degas Cation Conductivity System. And the Mark 22 Calibrator still remains one of our best-sellers as THE standard for calibration/validation of on-line conductivity & pH measurements.

If you have a particular application you would like us to evaluate, don't hesitate to contact us. Before you know it, summer will be over and Fall, then Winter will be upon us.
